THE FACE OF AN UNKNOWN INDIAN

This is one such incident which happens very rarely in India. My country with its vast varieties of people , and with more people below the poverty mark, rarely we will see some acts of inspiration from the bottom, which make us think are we really up to the standard?. The virtues shown by people who are so called low class sometime excel the acts of charity of million dollars by people who are doing it for the pomp. I just experienced one soul drenching, illuminating moment as i am writing this, i just wanted to share immediately the excitement, the joy and happiness of meeting one such indian, who has illuminated my soul. may be the incident may sound silly to readers, but one who knows what India is all about truly knows the impact of this

incident. Today was just another day until i struck upon the event. Today there is petrol shortage in my city chennai, hence my lecturer called me and asked me to wait for him, as his vehicle was dry. Hence we both started to our college free medical camp which is organised at mudichur every tuesdays and fridays. as we entered, i went to my friends and we were kidding each other, and didnt do any work :) just whiling away the time, patients were coming and going.

By 10.45 we asked our sir for a tea break and started out, just had a nice walk and we were at tea shop, it was my friend kavitha who called me, she was there at camp. Wondered why she is calling? thought she would need some biscuits are coffee for her self, thinking so i reluctantly attended the call. She told me that you just come immediately , pavani has left her mobile in the bus itself . umm now i understood the problem pavani one of my classmates and a cool friend has expensive mobile at least worth of 10,000 bugs or more. She is actually pretty cautious unlike me (for info successfully so far mysteriously 3 mobiles of mine have disappeared!!) .I told the guys i am leaving there and told the problem, and started off. My lecturer was waiting, he told that she had left her mobile in 55m bus( that goes from tambaram to mannivakkam), and she just now told that she had left in the bus, and sir called her number. a man attended and informed that mobile was with him, and he is in mannivakkam right now, and asked to come and get the mobile as soon as possible. I was surprised , so even after taking a mobile with him that too expensive, he is replying us coolly!! i was not told clearly about neither his whereabouts nor about his details or identity, infact not even his name!!. hence me and pavani started our journey. we came to natesan school and he had told some school near and again we called him, his descriptions were a bit confusing indeed, we just roamed around that school in search of a barbershop and teashop which he told as identity. he told that he is in a house were some painting work is carried on, and pink colour was the paint. As the place looked doomed , a sudden streak of fear ran through my mind, was it safe with a girl by your side to go to an unknown locality to meet an unknown person? she also felt the same, what if this was a trick to trap pavani? (too much of detective novels and movies !!!) but any way we didnt want to take the risk, i called kannan and asked him to come to the place were we will be waiting. On the way i drove in to a ditch and she jumped from her seat and was in air for a few seconds , and fortunately no damage for any one. We again called him, and still was not able to understand the exact location. Kannan spoke with them and he partly understood the place, he asked us to wait and he will go and look around. we were waiting there , i told pavanai, that he may expect some thing(of course money), and decided 50 will do. later kannan called us and told that he has found the place and asked us to come. so we went and we found that the locales he was giving was exactly there. and down in a lane atlast we found the house were the painting was done. we stood there. i told kannan, how much should we give? i think they will expect something, he said wait we will give something after he asks for. why to give on our own? and kept my wallet back in to my pant pocket. 2 men came down the stairs, as shabbily as they could have ever been dressed, painters attire- the paint stained clothes, not more than 30 years of age. They came and asked pavani, "is this your cell?" she replied"ya" , they had her cell in the front pockets of the trouser of one of them, her cells shining green velvette pouch was in contrast to the shabby greasy attire of the man. he further spoke on " shouldnt you be more careful? we were waiting since morning for a call, we ourself thought of calling someone, hereafter better never be careless like this have it" he gave the pouch to her, i thanked him, so was she and kannan, we all thanked them and internally i was thinking so how much this fellow is expecting and when he will open the mouth, i dont have 50rs change just a hundred rupee note is there, alas there i had the second surprise they just left without further word, and were back in the duty, we also started and as i kicked my bike and started, we would have just travelled 10 feet, i felt a sting in my

heart, no you shouldnt do that his virtue , his nermai- honesty have to be rewarded, recognised, we indians always fail to recognise such acts! he will think next time before handling back the item to its owner, what benefit had i got? i stopped the vehicle, turned back my head to pavani with these thoughts in my mind, hell was she a mindreader!! she told "suneel shouldnt we give something? he has not even asked for" ya i told her yes we should, and turned my vehicle and came back. i saw them standing in the terrace, i just signalled him, just come down, i could see some panic in his face and as well as his fellow mates, they would have thought oh now these people are going to complain where is my 100 rs note i kept inside the pouch!! he came down

reluctantly from the stairs, i went to him, gave 100 rs to him, oh alas the third biggest surprise !! he refused to take it, i said "no you should take this its for your attitude, and i felt that i needed to hug him, yes i hugged him, the happiness i had was something that nourished my soul, he was just as reluctant as he was and just went about his work with a smile. Pavani was happy, kanna was smiling, and i relentlessly thank god for giving me a role , a witness to the great act of an unknown indian, i still dont know his name, but i will always remeber his face whenever some one utters the word "HONESTY". Life is not a complicated thing, these simple men and simple acts teaches us tons and tons of lessons, then any textbook could have ever taught us. Listen your heart, joy is inevitable. I thank god who made pavani to loose her cell, else i would never had this experience. India's soul lies not in its militairy power, not in its it companies, not even in cricketers or the entertainers, its just these bunch of simple people who make the country stand tall because of there illustrious attitudes.

WELCOME 2009

Finally the year 2008 has passed on and another year has dawned, a new year, set of new

opportunities, set of new tasks and challenges to be faced, a new set of goals to be achieved. The

life itself is a great teacher, a master par excellence as it unfolds , its the experience that counts.

I wonder in the past 1 yr how many days i could recall exactly what i did, it could be probably

25- 30 days at the maximum!! so what have i done to rest of my time!!? We all have this

problem, its time to think have we lived our life to its fullest extent as we thought?, its time to

look back, to decide our next step we need to recollect the past. I have decided to document my

life and thoughts in a dairy from this year, and so far am successful, hope i will follow the entire

year. 2008 , had its momments of history, the obamas victory has made this entire world to

look out for a change, though the illinois senator is no magician , he cant just change the world

with his whisk of a wand. Let us hope and wait that something good happens in trying times. As

an Indian , the act that shook up me would naturally be the attack of timids on the mumbai

killing innocent lives. I am praying god for a year where no such incidents repeat anywhere in

the world. again this new year has began with bombings of gaza by israelis.

Let this year be the full stop of all such activities were human life is lost in vain.

The economic turmoil will be overcome for sure.

In this new year i pray god to give me courage and to all people, atleast this time we shall live

our life which we have dreamt for.

Let us be unflinching from our goals and perceptions.

Let us live our life fully , and enjoy the life as we travell through the various pages of the great

book of life with fascination and enthusiasm at the heart.

Let us forget the sin of others in the past, and forgive the sins of our own.

Let us be equipped in all measures to face the odds of life and be resolute that when we come out

we w ill be a better person.

Let us cultivate the love within, the divine radiance shall spread to ourself , our family ,

neighbours, pets, street, town, city , state, country and to this entire world, let the light from our

heart carrying love and hope spread to the entire world and provide strength to the weak,

provide hope to the dispaired, provide energy to those exhausted, provide happiness to all.

Let us be more human than ever and be sensitive to our fellow passengers, afterall its

coexistence that has made us surviving species in this world.

Let us be more conscious about our body and its needs and attending to its needs.

Let us live and dance to the tunes of nature , in harmony with it.

Let us be more truthful to our self,and and fellow beings.

Let us expand our limits, and not just get shrunken in to a shell.

Let us have no fear, and pure courage which is sensible shall guide as through.

INQULAB ZINDABAD

India, my mother nation is fighting her way, a serious situation , it has to survive and overcome

it. the cowardly act of terrorism had indeed created a sense of vaccum, an insecurity in the

minds of people, questioning the sheer hope of tommorow. yes , the mindset would change gradually, i know that the people of india have unsual power of coping and adjusting to the

situations, and bouncing back to buyoyancy, just a matter of time. but how long are we going

to live with terror at our backyard? no point in blaming and churning the same story about the

involvement of neighbouring nation, pakistan, the people of pakistan are also shaken up by the

acts of terrorism.

The political head rollings are of least importance in this hour of crisis ,

and of least importance to a common man, a common man is not worried about who is the

secretary of defence, or the minister? he needs security, he needs to drive away his fears, he

needs assurance, not just political promises and claims. there is lacuna in coordinating the

various security systems in india, we need to set up an autonomous body which coordinates the

entire defence mechanism, the communication system and intelligence mechanism has to be

improved. enough of blame game by the leading political parties, if these acts continue i am sure

that people may loose faith in democracy at some or other point of time.

Government has to answer some tough questions, what is the mechanism to protect a common man from becoming a victim of terror?

does our armed men have enough technical advancements to over come the challenges of these

brutal man eaters? are we competent enough?

and so on..yes its time that people of india should cometogether, hold the hands , and unitedly

resist and move forward against the evil elements, forgetting the borders, religions, castes,

political agenda, its time for a revolution- inqalab, to show resilience, to put up a brave fight

against those evils, inspite of the severe loss of lives i see one good point in this terror attack, i.e

its the feeling of integrity, the maharashtrians, the tamilians, the biharis, the kannadigas and soo

on all atleast at that momment we felt we all are indians, this feeling has to run through our

blood.

Sincerely we pay our tribute to the legendary cops, jawans who fought it out to reduce

the death toll, and saved the lives of several people . hats off to kamte, salsalkar and karakare

saheb, we miss you and love u all, and the nsg commandos especially major unnikrishnan and

gajendra singh, for the valiant act. we expresss our solidarity with entire family of those victims

of terror, we cant console them, we are with you mumbai, Lastly

let us push over bad days behind, and overcome the adverse situation and put up a brave face ,

and terminate the evil forces and say to the entire world that our india is indeed

" SARE JAHAN SE ACCHA".

ideal political party. a distant dream?

Recently there was a huge gathering of a party started by actor turned politician in chennai, it made me to think about how a political party should be run in India? especially in tamil nadu, which had been under the rule of dravidian parties for the past 3o odd years, the political culture of the state , i felt is in a very bad state. These are my small fragments of thoughts, some may disagree or have better points , am ready for a healthy discussion always. Am presenting my view point from a citizen's angle about the ideal political party, when the word ideal is used it shows that its imaginary or unattainable, any way lets wait and watch..

1.No extravaganzas

2.No improbable and unappropriate and impossibble or unwanted promises made just for the election's sake.

3. No personal attacks on any one , this has to be adopted as partys motto , right from the head to the last supporter should refrain themself from attacking the individuals in public.

4.Meetings or any activities should not cause peril to the public life and shouldnot disturb the lifestyle of people of that area.

5. Its better to have a leader who in his personal life too disciplined, as in making some important policy decisions its neccessary that he should be in a position of command and not in a position of dispute because of his own behaviour.

6. Enough off great orators, we need people who will execute and convert the words in to acts.

7. The party should have a strong internal democracy.

8. No more family politics please (the most important one)

9. A party that doesnt overstuff it's ideologies in those people who are not interested in it( but first you need some ideologies to stuff!! thats different), and allows its members to express itself freely.

10. The supporters and members must not be just like a sheep herd , but should have some discriminative capacity and should not be blind to some unscrupulous deciscion at the highest level, at the same time they definitly should have immense discipline and respect to partys ideologies and leader.

11. The most important is the supporters, members and leader should not look politics as a new business or alternate or additional source of income , please dont come with the intention that if we invest 1 lakh we will reap 20 lakhs, this kind of business attitude should be thorougly eradicated.

12 The order of priority in taking a deciscion for a party leader should be country and people first(irrespective of power) second his party and members, lastly his own likes and dislikes.

13.Money management is important, always dont spend money lavishly in useless things like gatherings, etc instead that money can be used for doing something constructively for society.

14'lastly a people friendly party and easily approachable leader with whom we can share our public grievances.

15. A party that doesnot encourage violence in any level, that does not support any unwanted strikes and bandhs that affects public life.

hmm..after nearly 60 years of independence i couldnt find a party that matches all these criterias, and i know that its tumultuos task , it requires maturing of an entire generation, but let us awaken our self and awaken people arround ourself, its time to say loudly and clearly that WE NEED A CHANGE!!

BELIEVERS Vs NON BELIEVERS

God , this has been a subject of fascination to some, subject of faoth to som, to some it s a ridicuous joke. but one single question that lingers arround is has god created human? or human created gods? well without hurting any one's belief we need to take a truthful journey.
god , i feel is a glorious concept and deep rooted to the human evolution. we people always have a fascination or adoration towards a hero or heroic deeds. historically some of themythological figures , i feel would have been no more than a mortal and because of the exemplary quality of life , and great deeds the life of them is glorified and myths surround them as centurys move. the current day gods are definitly created by human. you have gods for all your purposes, to get marry, to get children, to get passport,visa, and what not, so what does human then here for? what does he do then? several of modernday methods of worship appears to be a sought of bribery , such as people trying to put contract with him, oh god you make me pass my exams then i will shave my hair,or break a coconut and so on, so we people trying to bribe god. we are fooling ourself by involving in such acts.
actually what does god mean to the society? an ulra power man who takes on all baddies, or a wish master or a loyal servant who full fills the needs, i dont find any meaning in such perceptions. so then you may think i am a non believer, no definitly not, i believe in him, the god, but he is not an individual, or a thing, rather he is a philosophy, a life style, an ulterior wisdom which moves the universe, we need to look at ourself, and nature if we really want to look and understand god. there is a set of rules, there are innumerable players , its like a flowchart or algorithm, god gives wisdom, he doesnt prompt you answers at exam hall. rather than a blind believer of good, you can be an intelligent athiest atleast.

TO LOVE AND HATE....

To love and hate...we all do have rights..but what is the demarcating line?!..i remember some great people's stories..first we have to understand what is real love..yes to love doesnt mean unscripulously , blindly supporting whatever our beloved person does..so also to hate means not blindly critiscizing or offending the nature of aperson or his deeds..we should be in a position to discriminate , between what is right and wrong, may be in a larger sense there is nothing called as right or wrong, thats different anyway, let us try to cultivate the habit of loving that too without discrimination , without expecting anything in return, because love is giving , its a pleasure for both , but sometimes we may feel that our counterpart doesn love us equally like us, definitly we can do nothing about that, our duty is to shed lo0ve we shall do it, coming to the point of to hate..ya we must indeed hate something, but the difference lies in discriminating the doer and his action, we can and ofcourse hate harmful actions or deeds of a person but not the person as a whole, that is we can hate deeds but should not hate the doer, this will actually build our relationship, oue happiness wont get pertubed, for eg if a person spits at u , u have the right to get angry but for the act of spitting alone, just we need not carry the angry and hatch into hatred..because what we need in todays world is love.....
